Lionsgate City win the Premier League

In an emphatic run of form which ended in a 6 game winning streak to win the title with 3 matches to go, Lionsgate City have become the Vyktoryan football champions after defeating Plainstown City 3-0 in front of 39,596 people at Lionsgate Stadium, just over half of the capacity of 77,500.

Lionsgate took eleven shots to Plainstown’s two, yet had 48% poseesion to Plainstown’s 52%. Liam O’Connor scored in the 4th minute with a well timed finish from close range and doubled the lead in the 17th after a wonderful header with Adam Rutherford capping off the match and the title win with a scoring header in the 50th minute.

In the other professional leagues, Pinkerton Reds won the First Division title in the 34th week after winning promotion in the 32nd with relegation from the First still up in the air and the Second Division is still up in the air as well.

Relegation from the Premier League is also yet to be decided, but Tylerdale Victory will not have been helped by their 7-0 loss at home against AFC Harrisville, who are gunning for second place.

Attention for Lionsgate City now turns to the FA Cup Semi-Final, with this year’s Northern Premier League and FA Vase champions Vyktory Dragons FC playing for one last hurrah before being wound up and Lionsgate City hoping to win the league and cup double. The other semi final is between Second Division side Austin Wanderers and Rogerton Heart.
